Woodlands Road 2.0

Following IWA’s successful approval of a smaller house on the site, the felling of a neighbouring ash tree prompted a fresh rethinking of how best to utilise the space. By shifting the proposal towards the north-west corner, an L-shaped plan was developed to maximise southern sunlight and create a welcoming, open courtyard at the heart of the scheme.

A low-lying, semi-subterranean bedroom wing ensures minimal visual impact on the surrounding backland character, while still allowing for a generous internal footprint—an approach ultimately supported by the planning authority. The main living space is defined by a subservient trapezoidal form, which maintains a discreet external presence while delivering a light-filled, vaulted interior.
